Making the Old New

It is Transfiguration Sunday this week. It is the last Sunday before the season of Lent. It is the third most holiest day of the year (Christmas second and Easter first). This is the time when three gospels share the same story. It sounds the same each year, so how do I make it new this year?

Do I concentrate on the ‘mountain top experience?’ Nah, that is too common or passé. Do I look at how Peter puts his foot in his mouth and how we do that a lot with God? Nah, I did that last year. Do I spend my week looking for something unique, something hidden in the common story or do I do what I do on the other holy days, simply preach the story?

Time and God will tell me. What direction are you heading this Transfiguration Sunday?
