Question

As I am reading Adam Hamilton I am curious about his use of the word unchurched. Is there a difference between those who are unchurched and those who are unbelievers? Who should the church focus their witness on?

My understanding of the term “unchurched” is that they have some level of belief in God, but they have not been to church in a long time, and so do not know all the traditions involved in a worship service.

  2. I think for Hamilton “unchurched” includes “unbelievers” but also those who have a belief in something. It's an umbrella term of sorts. I'm basing this mostly on the two sermon series he designs after Christmas Eve and Easter. These series are primarily focused on those outside the church for whatever reason.
